POLICY ON STUDENTS OF GRADE NINE (9) & TEN (10) DOING CSEC EXAMS (2022)

Jamaica College currently has a program to prepare students for CSEC exams in grades nine and ten. This year we will select thirty to forty (30-40) grade 9 students to sit  CSEC Human and Social Biology. In addition, we will select thirty to forty (30-40) grade 10 students to sit CSEC Mathematics. Students are selected by their teachers and departments using performance criteria. The preparation classes for these programs must be paid for by parents. We only have a few other selected subjects run by the school in preparation for examinations and therefore we will not enter students for other subjects, who are not specially selected. Students always have the option of entering as private candidates through the Overseas Examinations Commission which may include sitting an alternative to SBA paper.

Students sitting CSEC Mathematics at grade ten must immediately begin the CSEC Additional Mathematics course.

Students who attain a grade one in Mathematics will be allowed to drop the subject in grade eleven provided they are doing Add. Math or get special permission. Students attaining any other grade will be required to continue doing the subject and sit the CSEC examination again in grade eleven unless otherwise given permission.

Students at any other grade level wishing to sit CSEC or CAPE subjects through the school must receive permission from the Principal or Vice Principal.

Jamaica College prepares students to sit exit examinations in grades 11, 12, and 13. We continue to recommend this as the first choice of our Collegemen unless otherwise selected.

Answer:
1. Graded HW (Homework) for the term is reflected under the HW column, averaged
2. Graded CW (Classwork) for the term is reflected under the CW column, averaged
3. Test grades are averaged under the test column. Easter term was short and few teachers did class tests
4. The weighted average of the above is calculated to make the COURSE AVERAGE: CW=25%, HW=25%, Test=50%
5. The Exam grade is placed out of 100. The Exam grade is in a separate column and averaged with the COURSE Average to produce the Subject Average ( not seen on a report)

6. All the Subject Averages are averaged to produce the Final Term Average. Seen at the top right of the Report Card.

FYI: the term averages are averaged to produce a Final average which is what is captured for future transcript use.

Reminders to ALL external examination students

1. The new timetables must be printed and taken to the examinations. They will not be admitted to the examination without their new timetables.

2.  Additionally, if their school identification cards are not current, they are required to get a pass before they can be admitted to the examination room.

3. Your candidate number is on the hardcopy/printed timetable that was collected from the ICT offices (near the Gazeebo)

STEPS TO SAVE THE TIMETABLE AS PDF AND PRINT:

1 -Go to CXC student portal

https://studentportal.cxc.org

2- put in your credentials as per your printed time table.

3 – Click as seen in the image below

On the family portal, there are two options. The online payment where parents can pay right away or the LSFL option which gives the parents the system details they need to physically go to the locations to make the payment in cash. They have a choice. Online payment has a 2.5% processing fee and LSFL has a $100 fee. I should mention to be clear cards can be used at LSFL as well if they do not want to pay the 2.5% online fee. Receipts are issued and accounts are reconciled via either method.
LSFL payment information is on the Family Portal. This will allow parents to access this information if they choose to go to a location and make a cash payment. Note that many of the locations offer the flexibility of later opening in the week and weekend opening times including Sunday.
This is located as a web form in the Family Portal Menu, parents can screenshot this info and use this to submit payments:
