JC FOUNDATION & JCOBA WORK TO SUPPORT THE SCHOOL FOR CHAMPIONS
THE PRIMARY OBJECTIVES OF THE JAMAICA COLLEGE FOUNDATION ARE:
- To catalyse the transformation of Jamaica College into a first class institution of learning and physical development which molds young men into thoughtful, well rounded leaders of society.
- To influence and facilitate the creation and maintenance of a physical environment which features such grounds, structures and facilities as will embed in the young men a sense of being in the presence of excellence, grandeur and history and motivate them to conduct themselves accordingly.
- To raise and secure the funds and resources necessary to assist the School’s Administration and Board of Management to achieve these ends.

The areas of focus
- Cleaned up Grounds – removed 24 loads of garbage cuttings from Drax Lodge and School Campus
- Fixed all fencing around the whole school and improved where necessary
- Ensured proper clean up and maintenance of school by Maintenance Contractor, Mrs. Campbell
- Fenced in Basket Ball Court – Thanks to Florida O.B.A.
- Created and furnished permanent Offices for the New Jamaica College Foundation and Old Boys Association
- Converted ‘Old Gym’/Old Woodwork room into two new class rooms
- Converted the Swimming Pool Changing Room Building in to 2 new class rooms. Re-roofed the building.
- Asphalted several areas – Tennis Courts, Basketball Court, Driveway in to Principals Offices, Driveway behind Scotland West, area in front of Hardie Building, behind the cafeteria down to the infirmary, Parking areas in front of the school campus, Areas in front of the Fourth Form Block, Area in front of new tuck shop and patched major driveway through the school etc.
- Waterproofed all slab roofs
- Repainted the entire School Campus (interior and exterior – ongoing)
- Refurbished and Furnished Principal’s Residence
- Refurbished 4 of 5 Staff Cottages
- Re-roofed Simms Building
- Prepared Architectural drawing and quantities to improve the entrance to the school and to restore Holy ground.
- Prepared detailed architectural and plans for construction of the new auditorium and ordered Kirby building
- Commenced development of plans for the building of staff accommodation at Drax Lodge
- Re-roofed and repainted the School Chapel and repaired windows and pews.
- Fixed 90% of all Windows and 90% of all Doors and Grills throughout the school
- Refurbished all Science Laboratories (infrastructure)
- Fixed the electrical problems, improved the supply line to the school – repaired classroom lights etc. (ongoing)
- Converted 40 ft. Container into Satellite Canteen – Primarily for Upper School Students
- Repaired furniture – 1000 desks and chairs
- Obtained furniture from Food for the Poor (thrice) and M.O.E.
- Put up New Recognition Boards, for outstanding past students, e.g. Scholars, School Captains etc.
- Re-equipped and re-furbished three original Computer Labs – Thanks to Old Boys who live in Canada
- Complete refurbishment of the Health and Welfare Department (old infirmary), obtained new beds and created separate facility for members of staff, added two bathrooms, office for Nurse etc.
- Refurbished burnt out buildings at the back of Simms Building and converted them for use as offices for 3 Guidance Councellors and a Social Worker, (This represented a doubling of the capacity to facilitate the needs of the school) Additional space for visiting Councellors, with Offices for Plant Manager and Male Staff upstairs also provided.
- Refurbished Female Ancillary Staff quarters including new kitchen
- Created one new Computer Lab as well as three rooms for Technical Drawing, on the CARLTON ALEXANDER BUILDING , now the Resourse Centre
- Benefitted from the governments elearning programme.
- Jamaica College was the recipient of a new computer lab also located on the Carlton Alexander Building as well as a computer room ( located at the back of the School’s Library as well as audio visual equipment, digital cameras, Laptops, etc.
- Installed two interactive White Boards. Again thanks to Old Boys who live in Canada
- Constructed a new audio visual room equipped with interactive white board at Crows Nest (Scotland East Building)
- Completely refurbished and upgraded Text Book Rental Department and added Bathroom
- Refurbished Print/Copy Room, Storage area and Bathrooms for Admin Staff
- Created Space for P.T.A. Store and Office
- Created seven new classrooms for Fifth Form Students (Former Industrial Arts Building)
- Created new Fifth Form Teachers Room (located on new Fifth Form Block)
- Created Examination Room to facilitate and stream line all activities related to external examinations and School Based Assessment (SBA’s) also on the new Fifth Form Block)
- Created additional classroom for Sixth Form students and to facilitate additional Guidance Classes
- Refurbished all bathrooms throughout the school
- Created two new classrooms on the World Bank Buildingfor Third Form Students
- Refurbished the Music Department and obtained a new Piano
- Upgraded Classrooms generally (including repainting) and putting in at least four painted Motivational Messages in each classroom as well as on the corridors.
- Created and refurbished Office for the Bursar
- Created additional Bathroom on Canteen Building
- Demolished old building housing Ancillary Staff and created open landscaped area with structured walkway
- Created additional walkway from the Principal’s Garden to the Auditorium
- Renovated and fully reequipped the canteen
- Built a green house in cooperation with 4H clubs to introduce agriculture to the students
- Obtained a ride on mower to help keep the grounds neat
- Obtained a 20′ Trailer for use as a storeroom
- Created 6th Form Lounge
- Refurbished the Cadet Headquarters and converted the western end in to changing and bathroom for visiting teams
- Installed Grills to the 3rd and 5th Form Blocks
- Created secure storeroom for Gym
- Refurbished and refurnished Staff lounge
- Fenced the entire upper field
- Obtained new goal posts (football)
- Refurbished gym & the kitchen attached to the gym.
Academic
- Provide J$1.6 million to fund Extra Lessons Programme for CXC Students in 2006 and 2007
- Introduced quarterly incentive scheme for Teachers – $1.5 million/year
- Introduced a programme of Assessment of Grade 7 and Grade 11 Students
- Implemented the tracking of students on academic probation as well as students repeating a grade in order to design and implement remedial academic programmes
- Created computer lab for staff use
- Introduced performance Management System for all staff
- Introduced programme of ongoing upgrading and training of Teachers
- Provided outstanding Blind Student with Laptop Computer with special software for visually challenged Students. Thanks to National Housing Trust
- Prepared Jamaica College School Magazine
- Improved academic performance over the period by 25%
- Obtained $1 Million from Chase Fund to start the development of the school Museum
- Identified and appointed a new Principal, two Vice Principals and a new Bursar.
- Administrative Offices refurbished and computerized.
- Created a small Board/meeting room in Admin area.
- Installed new School Management Software system – i.e. computerization of all Student & Teacher Records.
- Installed new Accounting system and new Payroll system.
- Introduced more comprehensive financial reporting system
- Three ADSL internet installed at no initial cost and will attract no ongoing service cost
- New PBX System installed

- Introduced ongoing Development Seminars and scheme for staff.
- Commenced Creation of Data Base of Old Boy’s through the new Foundation offices
- Leased 30,000 sq. ft. of land to U.S. Embassy for employee parking
- Leased 8+ acres Watercourse Land to AISK to construct a school. AISK and Jamaica College have agreed to share relevant information on matters related to education and technology
- Completed preparation of Strategic Plan for School 2007 – 2012 and set up system to monitor progress on the plan
- Commenced the development of a School Facilities Plan as well as a Sports Improvement Facilities Plan
- Started the development of two Web Sites. One for the school and for the Foundation
- Introduced a Welfare Fund of $3M for needy students
- Re-designed Student Registration Form to capture more biographical information.
- Completed several major documents: Students’ Manual, Teachers’ Manual, Asset Register,Curriculum Guides (All subjects taught) for Grades 7, 8, and 9. Serves as a guide not only for teachers but for parents as well)

- Implemented new cleaning regime for classrooms as well as the campus.(three times per day instead of twice and sometimes even once)
