The Jamaica College community is once again preparing to lace up its running shoes and come together for the Hugo Chambers Memorial 5K Run/Walk 2026—an event that combines fitness, fellowship, community spirit and a commitment to supporting the continued development of young people through sport.
Hosted in association with the Jamaica College Sports Development Committee, the Hugo Chambers 5K has become an important event on the College’s sporting calendar. More than simply a race, it provides an opportunity for students, Old Boys, parents, staff, athletes, friends of the College and members of the wider community to come together in honour of the legacy of Hugo Chambers.
The event traditionally brings together runners and walkers of varying ages and abilities, creating an atmosphere where participation and community support are just as important as competition. The 5K format also provides an opportunity for participants to challenge themselves, promote healthy living and demonstrate the teamwork and determination that are central to the Jamaica College spirit.
The 2024 staging featured a 5.0K Run/Walk through the Liguanea and Mona environs, with the event beginning in Liguanea and finishing at Jamaica College. Participants also received finisher certificates, adding a special memento to the experience.
For Jamaica College, events such as the Hugo Chambers 5K are particularly meaningful because of the College’s longstanding commitment to athletics and sports development. The event brings together the wider True Blue family while highlighting the importance of discipline, perseverance, teamwork and service.
As preparations continue for the 2026 staging, participants can look forward to another morning of energy, camaraderie and healthy competition. Whether competing for a top position, completing the course with friends or simply supporting the cause, every participant will contribute to the spirit of the occasion.
The Hugo Chambers 5K is ultimately about more than the distance covered. It is about community, remembrance, wellness and giving back. Each step represents a connection between the past and the future—honouring a legacy while helping to inspire the next generation of Jamaica College athletes and young men.
