Jamaica College Producing Brilliance
Jamaica College proudly announces that Daniel Peart and Jaheem Khouri have been awarded the prestigious title of ‘2026 Jamaica Scholar’! They were selected by the Ministry of Education, Skills, Youth & Information in their continued effort to invest in academic excellence.
Interestingly, these are two students that exemplified out college core values. Are outstanding Collegemen that ran for the School Captain 2024/2025. Although they did not make it as the School Captain their impact were memorable and outstanding. As we spoke to students, management and staff about these students, it was clear that they had pride in having interacted with these students. They join our elite list of past Jamaica Scholars, of which the last appointed one was in the early 1990s.
Collegemen of High Standards:
Daniel Peart maintained a 4.0 GPA Average, with an exemplary attendance record and excellent conduct throughout his tenure at the College, (2018-2025). He held the positions of Form Captain for multiple years, 1st Deputy School Captain, 2nd Vice-president in the Key Club, and 2nd Vice President of the Chemistry Society in sixth form. Daniel was an Honor Society member, receiving several academic awards over the years. He also played Lawn tennis.
It was not unusual for Daniel to represent the school at events or to address the students at morning. Statesman-looking and always neatly attired in his uniform, Daniel represented the True Blue Collegeman.
Jaheem Khouri’s GPA Average ranged from 3.3 to 3.8 throughout his tenure at the College, (2018-2025). Jaheem was known as a hard worker with an excellent conduct receiving numerous awards for academic excellence. He was also very active in school. He was a member of the United Nations club, the Journalism Club and the Inter-School Christian Fellowship. He held the positions of 1st VP of the Chemistry Society, Prefect and PRO of the Key Club. In grade 9, Jaheem was a Students’ Council Representative and School Challenge Quiz team captain in Grade 11. Jaheem’s team took us to the nail-biting finals in 2025. He was disappointed that he did not take home the winning cup, but made sure he was present this year when the cup was taken to JC after 39 years from the last win. [see Jaheem and his mother in the picture to the left, with the cup he put sweat and tears into also]. He was in the Journalism Club, Chemistry Society (1st VP), Prefect and PRO of the Key Club.
Collegemen of High Character:
Daniel Peart’s Character was like a rock, one of the management team expressed. She certainly reflected the sentiments of the rest of us. As she went on to say “Daniel is very steady. I mean, if he says that he will do something, you can guarantee it will be done for as long as he has committed to doing it. I first interacted with Daniel during COVID.
He was in an online class. I think he might have been in third form or second form. It was a French class that I sat in on and this young man was clearly the co-teacher and he came across as so mature and responsible. When we returned to face-to-face school, I sort of watched him and he never waned in that. He carries himself with purpose. His interactions are always mature.
I’ve never seen him horsing around and acting frivolous. He’s a very good boy. He assisted students who were weak when they were in third form, extremely weak students. He tutored them in Chemistry and they learned and did well. And I mean, these are students who were at the time barely achieving a passing mark in any other subject. He taught them Chemistry.
So, he’s not only brilliant, his character is just as secure, like a rock.”
We must hasten to mention that he went on to getting a Grade 1 in CXC CSEC Mathematics in fourth form, Eight more CSEC subjects with Grade 1s in fifth form and CAPE French with a Grade 1 along with the CAPE Sciences and Communication Studies all with Grade 1s. Exceptional.
Another manager who worked closely with him as a 6th form leader, had this to say. “Daniel Peart distinguished himself during his tenure at Jamaica College as a student leader of exceptional discipline, composure, and organizational strength. Serving within the senior leadership of the prefect body, he exemplified the qualities expected of a School Captain, integrity, reliability, and a commitment to the College’s standards and traditions.
Peart was widely regarded as an astute and methodical leader, noted for his ability to plan, coordinate, and execute his duties with precision. His structured approach to leadership ensured that school activities, disciplinary responsibilities, and prefect operations were carried out efficiently and with minimal disruption. This level of organization earned him the confidence of the administration and reinforced the effectiveness of the prefect system during his tenure.
Academically, he maintained strong performances, demonstrating that leadership and scholarship are not mutually exclusive but rather complementary. His commitment to excellence in the classroom reinforced his credibility among peers, allowing him to lead not merely by title, but by example.
Perhaps most notable was Daniel’s ability to command respect across the entire school community. Teachers valued his maturity and dependability, while students responded positively to his fairness and consistency. As a leader, he led the body with a clear sense of purpose ensuring that discipline was maintained.
Through his service, Daniel contributed meaningfully to sustaining the culture of discipline, brotherhood, and academic ambition that defines Jamaica College. His tenure stands as a model of student leadership grounded in organization, fairness, and principled decision-making.
Jaheem Khouri’s Character was respected by the students and his teachers. One of the admin staff members said “Jaheem Khouri, a hardworking and dedicated past student that represented this noble institution very well.” One of the members of the School Challenge Quiz team, when asked to state one sentence that describes Jaheem, he said “A natural born leader and a great team mate.” Another peer found difficulty in summarizing in one sentence, all his thoughts and sentiments. His response was “I would say that Jaheem Khouri is one the best people that I know. He is very determined and disciplined when it comes to his work. I had the pleasure of having him as my captain for two seasons. In that time, I learnt from him not only when it came to quiz but life and faith on a whole. He always approached tasks with a very interesting mindset often looking outside of the box. As a person he is very fun to be around with his enhance sense of humor. Overall Jaheem Khouri is an exceptional student, wonderful captain and an even better friend.”
The Coach of the Quiz team had the experience of not just training Jaheem but also observed when he was not in training. Coach said “Jaheem Khouri is a brilliant young man who thinks outside the box. He logically questions the way things work, as a scientist, future engineer ought to think. He holds himself in high regards so anything below parr is unacceptable to him and it reflects in his academics. He’s outspoken and certainly not afraid of the spotlight. A natural leader who gives the respect that he commands. Everything else, in terms of hardworking, disciplined, being a natural leader, is demonstrated through his quiz performance.”
Jaheem also got a Grade 1 in Mathematics in Grade 10, seven CXC CSEC with Grade 1s and one with Grade 2. CXC CAPE 1s in the sciences and one 2 in Communication Studies. He also did well in his SATs and has City & Guilds Math Distinction Certificate.
The Quiz management had to say this about Jaheem, that again, others who know him can attest to it being true. “When I think of Jaheem Khouri, I think of someone who is dedicated to achieving success. He has an uncanny resilience to seek and apply knowledge to his everyday life.
When in 3rd form, I recruited him for quiz, a passion he had before entering Jamaica College. I immediately facilitated the necessary requirements for him to begin training. He started training in 4th form and by 5th form he became the Quiz Captain, leading Jamaica College to two semi-final berths, the first in 31 years, and one SCQ final birth, the first in 38 years.
A devout Christian, Khouri left a legacy of steady and calm leadership for others to emulate. JAMS, as he fondly called, is the consummate student-leader who leads from the front, is family-oriented, and excels in all of his endeavors by God’s grace. As the Quiz Team Manager, I am proud that he chose to represent Jamaica College at Quiz. It’s one of the best made decisions in the interest of the College.
As the school’s prayer reminds us: When we are called to serve, let us serve with gladness. Jaheem Khouri was called to serve Jamaica College, and served with gladness.”

Daniel Peart and Jaheem Khouri, demonstrate what dedication and positive attitude can achieve. Their accomplishments make the school proud and inspire other students to strive for excellence.
