Safety & Security

Dear Jamaica College Family,

As we usher in a new year, we are reminded of the importance of safety and preparedness. January is observed as Earthquake Awareness Month.  The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management (ODPEM) is spearheading a campaign to increase public awareness of the threat earthquakes present under the theme “Prepare for the Quake, Reduce the Impact of the Shake”.  We encourage everyone, parents, guardians, students and teachers to take proactive steps toward earthquake safety.

To reinforce the importance of preparedness, Wednesday, January 15 has been designated as the “Day for Schools Drill.” On this day, we will conduct an earthquake drill at Jamaica College to ensure that all members of our school community are prepared to respond effectively in the event of an earthquake.

Please find attached the Earthquake Awareness Newsletter, which contains detailed information about:

  • The steps to take during an earthquake.
  • Guidelines for participating in the drill.
  • Tips for earthquake safety at home, school, and in the wider community.

We strongly urge you to review the newsletter thoroughly and discuss the key points with your children. Your support in reinforcing these safety measures at home will be invaluable in ensuring our  preparedness at school.

Together, we can strengthen our readiness and reduce the impact of the shake.

Regards,
Kevin McCarthy
