Our Jamaica College Model United Nations Club participated last Wednesday (November 6th) in the Governor General’s annual National Youth Consultative Conference, centered on the theme “End Human Trafficking.” It was noted that Human Trafficking of all kinds: sex trafficking, child trafficking, fraud labour, domestic servitude, and child soldiering among others, has become the 2nd or 3rd most lucrative international criminal industry. Some of the trafficking acts expounded on in great detail by the panelists and presenters included: forced begging, organ harvesting, sex tourism, and surrogacy.
Our JCMUN gentlemen were given a mandate that day: to spread awareness and tackle this odious and exploitative infringement of human rights at all levels of society. Armed with knowledge, their next immediate task is the local U.N. Model Assembly on the 26th. As per usual, they intend to make their mark.
