Jamaica College hosted the ‘R. Danny Williams Career Week’ from March 11^th to the 15^th of this year (2019).  This is geared primarily for third form students, who are preparing to select subject areas of specialization for fourth form.  During that week the activities included career talks from different Institutions and field trips to various Organizations.

This year, for the first time, the members of the Information Technology Department have decided to partner with the Guidance Department in the planning and execution of third forms’ Career Week to be held from March 11-15 2019, now dubbed “Career and Technology Week”.

The purpose of this initiative is to offer students at the lower school level an opportunity to become exposed to fundamental technological areas in an effort to drive interest. It is aimed at:

1.      Providing hands on experience in basic technological fields

2.      Sensitizing students about career opportunities in Information technology.

3.      Enhancing students appreciation for the use and application of technology

Technology week is anticipated to expose third form classes to basics in following areas:

·         Computer Aided Design and Drafting

·         Networking – students were taught how to crimp cable ends and other networking aspects (see pictures below)

·         Computer infrastructure

·         Programming

·         Web page designing

·         Digital Media

Guest speakers came and addressed students. This included Major Basil Jarrett, JDF. Some 3rd form students went on trips organized by EduTours. These included: Caribbean Maritime University, Bureau of Standards, National Tools and Engineering, Norman Manley International Airport Control Towers. Gleaner Company, Bank of Jamaica among other places.
