On July 2nd, Manuel Rosales (Vice captain) and Trey Pennant (Captain). Competed at the US Open ISKA World Martial Arts Championships in Orlando Florida, representing Jamaica.
Trey was able to win two gold trophies in the 16–17 age division in the Clash Sparring and Continuous Sparring. As shown in the attached images. Manuel Rosales also performed exceptionally well, placing 2nd in Continuous Sparring and 3rd in Clash Sparring for the 16-17 division.
In order to qualify for the US Open, they first had to compete in a qualifier competition, where they also performed very well. Trey placed 1st, Manuel placed 2nd, and our teammate Keianjúie Williams placed 3rd. Keianjúie also performed exceptionally well throughout the qualifying competition and earned a spot that made him eligible to compete at the US Open along with Trey and Manuel. Though unfortunately, he was unable to attend the tournament.
Lastly, we want to give credit to the Taekwondo instructor, Delano Francis, for preparing us to compete and do so exceptionally. The team said “We couldn’t do it without his constant encouragement, and push to work harder.”
